Malika Jackson

/biography

Her works have been exhibited in galleries and festivals in solo and group shows and is in the homes of collectors throughout the country. 

​

She completed a six month residency at the Hyde Park Art Center ‘THE CENTER PROGRAM’ and received commissions for the Ronald McDonald Houses’ tribute to the Ryder Cup Tournament.  She exhibited in group shows, Tall Grass, New Haven Michigan Art Gallery,  Contemporary Art Center (Peoria), Howard Brown Center, Black Clay at  Chicago State University,  Hyde Park Art Center,  Woman Made Gallery, the Woodshop  Gallery (Chicago),  Noyes Gallery (Evanston), Museum of Science and Industry, South Side Community Art Center,  Artopolis at the Merchandise Mart  Chicago State University, Cliff Dwellers and numerous other venues.

Awards include, SPARK Award 2020,  honorable mention, Museum of Science & Industry, honored by the Diasporal Rhythms Art Association; art grant from the City of Chicago, design awards-Ann Brooks and Fur International Awards.  Commissions for public art work through the City of Chicago.  She has curated Cultural Connection Fine Art Festival for the past twenty-two years

She has been featured in the film ‘Curators of Dixon’; and ‘Producing Local Color’ – Art Network in Ethnic Chicago’, book by Diane Grams. She has been featured in  ‘South Shore Current’,and her art has been featured on its’ cover.

She has taught in the Chicago Public Schools, Charter School and various Community Organizations.  Have curated Cultural Connections Fine Art Festival for the past twenty year and worked as teaching artist for the Hyde Park Art  Center.

Malika graduated July 2016 with a MFA/LOW RESIDENCY degree from the School of the Art Institute and received her BFA from the School of the Art Institute, and further studies at Illinois State University, Normal, Illinois.  Artist tour of France and Italy and completed ceramic workshop in Tuscany, Italy and continue studies at Hyde Park Art Center in ceramics and painting
